Today the Lysenko Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre held the grand meeting devoted to the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Kharkiv area.

The Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine Andrey Klyuev, the Deputy Chairman of President's Secretariat Ivan Vasyunik, delegations from other regions of Ukraine and official representatives of foreign states took part in the celebration.

I.Vasyunik read out to the audience the congratulations by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yuschenko on the anniversary and presented the Chairman of the Regional Council Vasiliy Salygin with a "For Services" order of the second level. He also presented other honours from the President of Ukraine: a "Princess Olga" third level order to the Regional Council deputy Lyubov Chub and honorary titles to the deputies V.Svyatash and S.Denisyuk.

Congratulating the citizens of Kharkiv on the 75th anniversary of the area, А.Klyuev emphasized the large importance of Kharkivshina for the whole state as of one of the major industrial and agricultural regions, of a world-famous cultural and scientific centre. "Kharkivshina should give an impetus to the development of the national economy", he said. The Vice-Prime Minister also presented awards from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to the collective of the staff of the Yuzhnaya railroad (which is headed by a Hero of Ukraine, Regional Council deputy V.Ostapchuk), to the director of an agricultural firm "Noviy Put" (Borovsk area), to the Hero of Ukraine Anatoliy Krivoruchko and to the head of the Krasnokutsk Regional Council V.Slonchak.

The greetings from the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada were read by V.Salygin, who presented the diplomas from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the Chairman of Regional Council of "Union of Invalids of Ukraine", to the Regional Council deputy L.Trifonova and to the Chairman of the Kharkiv district council V.Zbukar.

V.Salygin presented the certificate, the diploma and the breastplate of "Honourable citizen of the Kharkiv area" to the wife of Evgeniy Kushnaryov who had been given this title posthumously by the Kharkiv Regional Council.

The grand meeting ended with a celebratory concert.
