“Today we must speak to our children and grandchildren about those close to us we have lost in the Afghanistan war, about the pain of mothers whose sons did not return home in 1989, about the wounds time can never heal. They must be aware of your feat, be conscious of it and always remember,” said Liudmyla Davydova, Vice-Chairperson of Kharkiv Regional Council at the meeting with active of veterans’ organizations of warfare in Republic of Afghanistan and other states taking place at the Hall of Councils. Vasyl Khoma, Deputy Head of Regional State Administration, also participated in the solemn event.

Addressing the Afghanistan movement participants, Liudmyla Davydova also mentioned that each person’s moral duty is not just to treat reverently the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the Homeland, but also to support their relatives.

“The glory of Kharkiv land is multiplied by its loyal children,” said Vice-Chairperson. “Yesterday we recollected the events in Pylypivka, Kharkiv Region, where two hundred Soviet soldiers were burnt alive by the Nazis. Today we revere the memory of those who lost their lives in Afghanistan. And of course, we wish hard war times never knocked on doors of our homes again.”

Liudmyla Davydova and Vasyl Khoma congratulated the present on the 24th anniversary of Soviet troops withdrawal from Afghanistan and awarded veterans of warfare with regional awards.
