The Head of Kharkiv Regional Council, the President of Local Authorities Association of Kharkiv Region Sergii Chernov congratulated the winners of the “We Are The Local Authorities” competition held for the first time in the Region this year.

“It is inspiring to remark that our initiative was supported by both schoolchildren and students. In 2012, we held the “we Are Local Authorities” competition among children and young people for the very first time. Total of 292 applications have been submitted to the Organizational Committee. 218 Schoolchildren and more than 150 students from 23 Kharkiv Region higher educational establishments participated in the competition” said Sergii Chernov.

“We should foster the prestige of local authorities and executive branch jobs, however, unfortunately nowadays a person who works for the power is biased and deemed not decent. This is not at all true” underlined Sergii Chernov. “Today we should prepare new human resources for working in local authorities tomorrow. We should train them, explain our work and do everything possible to involve young people who are sure to do better than we do.”

Sergii Chernov stressed that participation in the competition gave children and students an opportunity to express their views and opinions in regard of the way local authorities should be in a village or a small town. “I was amused by the high level of the works as well as the way children feel the needs of their communities, their patriotism and unique ideas and thoughts.”
