During the plenary sitting of the 8th session of the Kharkiv Regional Council, Artur Tovmasyan, Chairman of the Kharkiv Regional Council, addressed the deputies with a proposal to transfer part of the Metalist Stadium, which is now jointly owned by the region's territorial communities, to the ownership of Kharkiv.

Until 2007, Metalist Stadium was owned by the city, but on the eve of EURO 2012 it became the joint property of the territorial communities of the region. In 2013, the stadium was sold to the new owner of the club, but after his refusal to fulfill the investment obligations the stadium was returned to the ownership of the region’s communities.

“We all know that Ihor Terekhov, the secretary of the Kharkiv City Council, and Oleksandr Yaroslavskyi, an entrepreneur, have expressed a common desire to revive the Metalist football club. I am sure that each of us, being a patriot of Kharkiv and of the entire region, supports this initiative. We remember the times when the Metalist club was the pride of Kharkiv and every citizen was proud that one of the best football clubs in the country originated from Kharkiv”, Artur Tovmasyan said.

The head of the regional council expressed a conviction that after the initiative of announced by the secretary of the Kharkiv City Council, Igor Terekhov, and the entrepreneur Oleksandr Yaroslavsky regarding the intention to revive the club, the deputies as representatives of the region's population should also take certain steps.

“As the first item on the agenda, we need to conduct an audit of the Metalist club's property currently controlled by the regional authorities.

As the second item on the agenda, after the audit we should transfer the club’s property to the ownership of city of Kharkiv, since the current city administration represented by Igor Terekhov, acting jointly with Oleksandr Yaroslavsky, undertook to revive the pride of the city and region -the Metalist football club”, Artur Tovmasyan further said.

The head of the regional council believes that this step will revive the Metalist football club and contribute to its return to the highest levels of football ratings in the country, thus promoting the development of the city and region.

“Kharkiv deserves great football, so we will take every effort to achieve this”, Artur Tovmasyan stressed.

After the chairman of the regional council completed his speech, the deputies of other factions of the Kharkiv regional council supported the announced initiative.
