The O.M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy museum, which includes the museum of Ukrainian writer and statesman Serhiy Pylypenko and the sculpture exhibition of Mirtala Pylypenko, hosted the presentation of the cultural and publishing project. The Head of Kharkiv regional council Serhiy Chernov took part in the event.

Opening the event, the Head of Kharkiv regional council noted that the presentation among the most interesting events held by the university recently.

“This is an truly remarkable event in the cultural life of the city – presentations of the culturological project and the exhibition of modern editions of literary works by the Pylypenko family. The heritage we received from Serhiy Pylypenko and Tetyana Kardynalovska’s literary activities is hard to overestimate. Therefore, it is our duty to keep and pass the cultural heritage down to the following generations”, emphasized Serhiy Chernov.

The head of the family, Serhiy Pylypenko was a Ukrainian writer of the “Shot Renaissance”, the author of some thirty books of stories and fables, the founder and head of the Rural Writers Association "Pluh". He lived in Kharkiv in the house called the Word. He made a great contribution into the development of Shevchenko studies in Kharkiv and was the author of the monument to Taras Shevchenko, told the event organizers.

Serhiy’s wife Tetyana Kardynalovska and their two daughters Asya Gumecka  and Mirtala Pylypenko glorified Ukraine globally with their creative work, and dedicated their lives to celebrating and honoring Serhiy Pylypenko.

The University Rector Volodymyr Babayev remarked that the project revealed new, unfortunately tragic aspects in the history of the 1920-1930s.

“Many people ask why Serhiy Pylypenko Museum is in our university. Those were our university staff who accidentally found new unknown facts related to the life of the prominent statesman. They were so deeply moved by his public and creative work that offered to open a stand, dedicated to Pylypenko family, that further turned into the museum, which was established with the support of Serhiy Pylypenko’s daughters. They did their best to celebrate their father I Kharkiv, where he was shot in 1934”, told Volodymyr Babayev.

During the event its participants learnt about the biography and creative work of each member of the Pylypenko family. Their verses were recited in different languages by the university students.

In addition, the participants were shown Serhiy Pylypenko, his spouse and daughters’ publications released while alive:

  • Serhiy Pylypenko “Thousands in units” (“Tysyachi v Odynytsiakh”). Collected works from the publications released while alive.
  • Tetyana Kardynalovska. “Inevitable Past” (“Nevidstupne mynule”). Continued by her daughters Asya Gumecka and Mirtala Pylypenko “From Darkness to Light” (“Vid temryavy do svitla”). The prefaces were written by the Academician of the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences Mykola Zhulynsky and the famous Ukrainian Slavonic scholar Yuri Luckyj (Canada).
  • Asya Gumecka . “Selected philological works”.
  • Mirtala Pylypenko. “The Way to Yourself” (“Shlyakh do Sebe”). The selection of poems in three languages: Ukrainian, English and Russian. In 2018 it was completed with the edition in four languages, the Polish language was included.
  • Mirtala Pylypenko. “Sparkles of Thoughts” (“Iskry Dumok”). The author’s photo-album of sculptures with her verses in Ukrainian and English.

On behalf of Asya Gumecka and Mirtala Pylypenko the Kyiv–Paris–Dakar publisher also presented Kharkiv city libraries with the books released by it.
