The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine gathered today in Kyiv for a solemn meeting dedicated to the twenty-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine. Before the meeting, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky gave a speech.

"A quarter of a century ago, on this very day, in this very hall, a very important symbol of our history, our independence and our state was born! The first word with which its first article begins is "Ukraine". And that says it all. Its second article begins with the word "sovereignty." And the third article begins with the word "human". And it says even more. Yes, compared to the age-old Constitutions of many states, our basic law is very young or even of tender years. But the things I said above, as well as the assessment of the international community, which called our Constitution one of the most democratic, its human-centric approach (a third part of the articles is devoted to human/citizen rights and freedoms) - all this shows that our young Constitution is mature and wise at the same time, " the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The solemn meeting was attended by the people’s deputies of Ukraine of current and previous convocations, chairmen of the Verkhovna Rada of previous cadences, Presidents of Ukraine, authority of the Cabinet of Ministers, judicial branch, diplomatic missions. In particular, Artur Tovmasian, Chairman of Regional Councils was among the invited.
